About Creative Writing

Class Description Creative Writing is an exploratory class for seventh graders that allows them the opportunity to explore their own imaginative styles of writing. This class is geared toward the development of student writing. This will be accomplished through a strategy called "Step Up to Writing," as well as, the use of the Prentice Hall text and other materials. These materials will assist students as they progress through the writing process this year. This clas will primarily be focusing on three genres of writing: the poem, the short story, and the essay; however, personal narratives and other genres will also be discussed. Many of the ideas that students will be using for their wirting will come from their every day lives, interests, and personal experiences. This class is a great opportunity for students to express themselves and disseminate what they know through the written word. This will be supported by the work they will be producing. This class will also be a tool to prepare students for future encounters with writing prompts, essay questions and other genres of writing. As 7th graders, students will be required to take the California State Writing Test; this class is designed to preapre students for this task.
